After the discussion earlier, I asked Terry Robinson from Describe Online if he'd like to comment. Here is his message, which you will note includes a link to last year's Sight Village information. George. -----Original Message----- From: Terry Robinson Sent: 15 February 2006 14:50 To: George Bell Subject: Re: [access-uk] Re: This years Sight Village Hi George, Many thanks for forwarding this message onto me, as I'm not currently subscribed to the Access-UK list. This is almost exactly the service we've provided for five years now. We don't go so far as assigning co-ordinates to each stand, we believe this would confuse more people than it would help. We've even received some flack over the years for referring to compass points, even though these permeate our daily lives. What we do... We provide an online guide to the exhibition which tells visitors how to reach the venue via private and public transport, what the venue is like, in terms of its layout, where the exhibition is established within the building and where each stand is located within that space. We include a description of each room and then describe the layout of the exhibition within that space. So, this satisfies Peter's request without going into co-ordinates. I'm please to announce that We've secured verbal agreement to provide the online catalogue for the exhibition this year, in collaboration with Queen Alexandra College. In the past, we've provided the online way finding guide whilst QAC have provided the catalogue. This has led to duplication between us and much confusion amongst visitors and exhibitors alike, as to who was saying and publishing what. Hopefully, from now on, QAC will provide its marketing information for the exhibition as a whole whilst we provide the online catalogue. I've left our guide to Sight Village 2005 on the Internet for demonstration purposes, though it's not linked from our home page. Please visit www.describe-online.com/sight-village/ My thanks to George for drawing this query to my attention. I'll arrange for suitable publicity to announce when we've started publishing information for this year's exhibition. I hope this will be sooner, rather than later, well in advance of the print literature.
