Hi Kevin,

Perhaps you should ask them what their contention ratio is.
That's the number of users who share the connection.  On
business lines, it is general 20-1, where on many private
broadband connections it's as much as 50-1, and that
certainly is the case with BT.

However, performance is affected by the number of users on
line at any one time.  Could it possibly be that your
performance has been affected by mid-term school holidays
when doubtless every kid on the block has been playing games
over the internet?
