Hi George.

I was able to follow your directions up to the point where you mention
"Service Status", this I couldn't find.

After selecting "Manual", a couple of tabs across took me to the "Apply"
button, but no sign of "Service status" in between.

Any ideas?

Darran

| Hi Darran,
| Having just gone through the process described, here's my
| take, though you may need some sighted help if you can't
| find what I describe.
| Start, Run, and in the dialog there type
| Services.msc
| The press Enter or click OK.
| You will now get the Services dialog up.
| You should find a column listing all the services on your
| system, in alphabetical order.
| Go down to "Office Source Engine" (OSE) which should be
| highlighted.
| You should then find a "Start Service" link or button.
| Click on this, and it will start the OSE.
| Go back to the list where the OSE should now be shown as
| "Started". Double click on it, which will being up the
| Properties dialog for the Office Source Engine. There are
| four tabs, of which "General" should be the default.
| Go down to the "Startup type;" listbox, and select "Manual".
| (Below that is "Service status:" which hopefully says
| "Started".)
| Tab down to the Apply button and click on it.
| Close all windows and try the Office Update again.
| George.

|| Hi Darran,
|| Not sure of your screen reader will function in this, but
| to
|| get to a command line prompt, go to Start, Run, and in the
|| dialog that comes up, type cmd and press Enter.
|| You are now in what visually appears to be a DOS screen.
|| Normally commands are entered as specified in MS's KB
|| articles, and you then simply press Enter to execute the
|| command.
|| To get out of this command mode, type exit and press
| enter.
|| If you can let me know the MS KB article number, I can try
|| to be more specific as to what you need to do.
|| George.

|| Hi List.
|| I've had a problem with updates for Office 2003 not being
|| installed, and the MS Knowledge Base has suggested a
|| resolution, but to do this I need to enter the Command
|| Prompt. I've never been in there before, and there doesn't
|| seem to be an edit field to enter the information
| required.
|| Would someone with a little more experience of the Command
|| Prompt mind letting me know how I should proceed in this
|| area? How do I enter the command lines etc?
|| Many thanks.
