Hi RayUntil I got my HP laptop, I felt the same as you, and always wanted to attach an external keyboard. But the HP is pretty similar to a conventional keyboard, except that the Windows key is the third and not the second on the bottom row, and the delete, insert, home, end, page up and page down keys go across the top of the numeric keypad instead of the usual block of six. All the symbols I use are in their proper places, and I had no messing about with regional settings either thankfully. I've got so comfortable with it that I could use it now as a main machine if necessary.

Caroline, Chris and anyone following this thread, my sister bought an HP laptop earlier this year at a knockdown price. the strangest thing about it was that the keyboard was set up in US layout, even though the keyboard itself is a UK keyboard. I had to go into regional settings to change this. Must admit I'm not used to laptops and I find the layout makes me feel as if I'm in an alien world. Add to that the keys are flat, no raking of the keys, and I find it thoroughly uncomfortable to use. I really do dislike the way keyboards have gone on laptops, and were I to consider ever buying anything like this it would be with a desktop replacement keyboard layout with numeric keypad. Thanks, Caroline. -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Chris Hallsworth Sent: 09 December 2007 22:49 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Advent Laptops - Any Experiences? Hi Caroline, my Compaq is quite light and small; in fact, it's lighter than my Toshiba laptop I have that's gone in for repair after some spillage. Not sure about the screen though, could be 15 inches. Hope that helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Caroline Ford" <caroline@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, December 09, 2007 5:52 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Advent Laptops - Any Experiences?Hello Chris and others, Thanks for your replies about Advent laptops. The spec of yourCompaq,Chris, sounds very similar to the Advent. Could you let me know howlargethe screen is? What attracted me to the Advent was its decent spec combined with only a 12.1-inch screen, plus it only weighs 1.9 kg. I amlookingfor a small and light laptop but with a decent specification, so if your Compaq is also fairly small and light, it would be worth considering aswell.Jackie, I presume your HP must be quite large if it has a numerickeypad. That does sound a useful feature, but I think I might be prepared todowithout it if it adds a lot to the overall size. Hi, don't bother. I've not experienced them myself, but as they'renot aspopular as, say, Compaq, I wouldn't trust them. Go for a Compaq one instead. I have one, and it runs Vista Home Premium, has a dual coreprocessor, 2GB RAM, 160 GB hard drive, thus making it a very snappy laptop. Hopethathelps, happy shopping. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Caroline Ford" <caroline@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: "Access-Uk@Freelists. Has anybody had any experience of Advent laptops, good or bad? Imustadmit I wouldn't usually think of going to PC World, but this does soundareasonable machine for the price.
