Thanks, all, for your suggestions. I've already got Wordweb. I've also got
the American heritage with Kerzweil and the Office dictionary but I'm starting
a journalism course so I need a really good thesaurus... and not an American
one. I need to find out if the Collins or Oxford are accessible with Jaws.

For a small dictionary, but not in the scale of Websters or Collins, check
out Word Web, along with its scripts for Jaws at www.jfwlite.com Look in the
  programs page.
