Yep, but I'm having to reboot all the time to start off the storage device once again ...

Kind of sickening!

Thanks, Usuf, but I definitely stop and remove the hardware properly. Like you, I have occasionally come across the message that indicates the device isn't stopped but a repeat does it.

I'm a bit foxed with this one, let me tell you.

Hi Carol, The only thing I thought was are you making sure that your correctly removing the storage device? Do you go through the steps: 1 safely remove hardware, 2 select the device from the list, 3 tab to stop device and then make sure that windows has given you the message that it is safe to remove the device.

sometimes I have noticed that windows says it is unable to remove the device and gives an ok button. but repeating the process works. I think this is down to a program in windows stil accessing the hard drive.

Subject: [access-uk] A PROBLEM WITH USB STORAGE DEVICE

Hi All,

Forgive me if you've seen this but I had no replies and wondered whether the original message got through. Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm having a problem with my USB storage device, built into the computer, in that, once I've stopped a device to take out a CF card (or similar), I then cannot insert another card of the same type and get the device going again. This also applies to my stand-alone USB ports and an external card reader I
sometimes use. My only way forward seems to be to reboot. As I am
frequently wanting to use various cards, this is somewhat annoying, to say
the least ...

I don't recall that these ports always worked like this and wonder if
something has changed (with regard to MS Services which may have become
turned off (perhaps as various software has been introduced or upgraded)
that are needed for my USB's to function correctly.

I haven't knowingly played with any Services and, before doing so, would value any thoughts as to whether a manual change made by me will solve the problem. If you have any suggestions, I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks.
