Spelling, Writing From: Fran Bott <baylady@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Word Search Maker Create your own word searches with this simple program. Print it out or try it within the program. Word searches can be saved to finish or open at another time. Includes an uninstall facility. Compressed file size - 710 KB. http://www.adders.org/freeware/wsearch.html Sentence Builder There are a few sample sentence files included with the program and there is a facility to add your own. Basically the player chooses a sentence file from a drop down list. This file contains one or more sentences and the first of the list is displayed on screen broken up into words. The words are jumbled up and the player clicks on the words in order to make up that sentence. Other features of the program include audio instructions as well as the on screen text directions and an optional student statistic facility to keep track of how well a student is progressing. The edit/add sentence and student statistic facilities can be password protected. http://www.adders.org/freeware/sentence.html Note: There are many other free programs listed at Grey Olltwits site above, mainly for elementary ages. The site is well worth a look around. There is also information available adbout ADD/ADHD. Roxie's ABC Fish Roxie's ABC Fish for Windows 95/98/NT offers an enjoyable 3D animated edutainment game (see links to screenshots below) in which children easily learn their ABCs and numbers. This alphabet and number recognition instruction program is a painless and fun way for children to learn their upper and lower case letters and numbers to 100. http://www.latticeworksw.com/roxabc.htm Christina Word Christina Word is an exceptional talking multimedia word processor that teaches chiildren word processing basics. Christina Word tells you what each button is for and says the letters you type. There is a multimedia talking tutorial. and a list of words for spelling practice displayed on the left. This list can be edited. Kids get to load their own spelling words into the program and then can practice spelling them. Not only can they just learn how to spell they can learn the sound of each word because after they type a word a voice announces it. This program was the idea of my seven year old daughter Christina. The list was her idea also. She adds her spelling words to the list and practices them every week. http://exp.tukids.tucows.com/win95nt/5-8/preview/25727.html XWord - Xword makes small crosswords. I wrote it for my five-year-old who was learning to write so the sample clues are pitched at that level. There's no reason you shouldn't add harder clues. http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/PeterBalch/PRB00043.htm Word Web - The free thesaurus and dictionary for Windows WordWeb is a free cut-down version of the WordWeb Pro.
