Second grade is a bit on the young side for a full-blown webquest, but you may be able to adapt one to meet your needs. The webquest page at San Diego State would be a good starting place to learn about webquests and to search for webquests that might meet your needs: http://webquest.sdsu.edu/ Bernie Dodge, one of the "fathers" of the webquest, has started a site that deals with them: http://webquest.org/ Tom March, who worked with Bernie Dodge, also has some good materials: http://www.ozline.com/learning/ You might also want to check out the SBC KnowledgeNet http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/bluewebn/index.cfm and Filamentality http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/fil/ for help in finding/creating a webquest. You might also want to look at http://www.pbs.org Bruce Moon Rio Linda, CA ----- From: Jeff Jones <technomediaman@xxxxxxxxx> Kids Corner @ (RAN) Rainforest Action Network http://www.ran.org/kidscorner/ A joint project with NICK News Rainforests http://mbgnet.mobot.org/sets/rforest/index.htm Rainforests Photo Gallery http://www.rainforestventures.com/gallery.htm Reading Rainbow Review Movie http://pbskids.org/readingrainbow/books/review094a.html A Rainforest WebQuest http://webtech.kennesaw.edu/vgreen/webquest.htm Rainforest Scavenger Hunt http://www.mrsdingman.homestead.com/RainforestScavHunt.html Rainforest Fieldtrip http://www.field-trips.org/tours/sci/rainforest/_tourlaunch1.htm Rainforest Resources @ abcteach.com http://www.abcteach.com/directory/theme_units/habitats/rain_forest/ Rainforests @ Enchanted Learning http://www.zoomdinosaurs.com/subjects/rainforest/ If you would like Websites that go with the book, "The Great Kapok Tree" email me. Here are some useful resources that she compiled. Rainforest Virtual Reality Tour http://www.bsrsi.msu.edu/rfrc/tour/slidec.html This site is a good introduction to the rainforest because it gives a brief description of different animals, plants, insects and people of the rainforest. This site also includes a quiz based on pictures to see what you have learned. The language and material is appropriate for elementary school. Zoom Rainforest http://www.zoomschool.com/subjects/rainforest/ This site defines the meaning of a rainforest and gives a brief overview of the people and the animals that live there. It also has excellent links, which define highlighted words or give additional information on that topic. This site is made for young students and would be a wonderful introduction to the rainforest. RESEARCH SITES Animals of the Rainforest Http://www.srl.caltech.edu/personnel/krubal/rainforest/edit560s6/www/animals.htm This site has research information on different animals of the rainforest. This site includes pictures and illustrations. Animals of the Rainforest slideshow HTTP://www.scu.k12.ca.us./pomeroy/Rainforest/v3_document.htm This slideshow is a good example of a PowerPoint presentation on animals of the rainforest. The slide show was written by children. Children would be able to read this slide show without any help. The best part of this site is the students illustrations. The language and material is appropriate for elementary school. Rain Forest Animals Http://www.edtech.kennesaw.edu/traci/animals/animals.htm This site has brief description of various animals of the rainforest. Children can learn how they can help save the Rainforests. Science: The Rainforest http://www.pbs.org/tal/costa_rica/index.html This site uses wonderful photographs, maps and charts. This site has colorful photographs and age appropriate information. This site focuses on giving the reader an overview of the rainforest. FINAL ACTIVITY FOR RAINFOREST UNIT Amazon Interactive http://www.eduweb.com/amazon.html This site would be a wonderful final activity of a rainforest unit. The reader is asked questions based on what they have learned. To find the answers the reader needs to make a decision and choose an answer. WebQuest on Animals of the Rainforest http://www.plainfield.k12.in.us/hschool/webq/webq3/rain.htm This WebQuest focuses on learning about the animals of the Rainforest.
