So far all dumps I downloaded were just fine.

Some dumps sometimes do not finnish properly. If this happened, the dump index
page usually displays a warning.
Other than that, you'd have to ask the Wikipedia staff who provides the dumps.

PS: It might be obvious, but did you check you have sufficient free disk space?
