Dear YESSers. It's a pleasure to greet you.
We, Nina Kaiser and Giovanni Ávila-Flores, are pleased to write to you today as
the members of the new Executive Team 2020-2021. We hope to continue the
excellent work done by the previous members of the Executive Team as well as
develop new projects and ideas developed by our community.
I, Nina, am a doctoral candidate in my second year at the University
Duisburg-Essen and work on the effects of river restoration for ecosystem
services. With a background in Geosciences and Physical Geography, now working
in the field of aquatic ecology, I am familiar with the concept of ecosystem
services since many years. This year, I participated in the ESP 10 in Hannover
and presented a part of my latest work on cultural ecosystem services of river
restorations, assessed by social media.
I, Giovanni, am a Ph.D. candidate in my fourth year at the Autonomous
University of Baja California Sur, Mexico (Marine and Coastal Sciences) and I
work in an integrated assessment of mangrove ecosystem, being a chapter focused
on ecosystem services. I have participated as a YESS delegate for IPBES 6 at
Medellin, Colombia, as an organizing member of YESS Delegation at IPBES 7 at
Paris, France, as a coauthor for an article made by several YESS members and
recently I participated in the ESP10 World Conference in Hannover, Germany,
presenting a study on cultural ecosystem services of mangroves of Baja
California Peninsula, Mexico.
We would like to acknowledge and thank the work of the YESSers who were kind
enough to take any roles in the network so far, be it in the executive team,
the outreach and communications team, organizing the journal club, taking care
of our web presence and our mailing lists, or welcoming new members.
In the next months, we hope to strengthen the YESS network together with you.
Since the two of us cannot succeed alone, we invite all of you to contact us if
you are interested in contributing to this group.
If you have further ideas and wishes for YESS, feel free to contact the two of
us. Keep in mind that this organization is made by all of us, so feel free to
propose your own YESS projects! Also, if you haven’t done so already, we invite
you to join our Facebook group and follow us on Twitter.
Finally, we hope to be in contact with most of you and contribute to a network
all can benefit from.
Best regards and happy holidays!
Nina & Giovanni.
P.S. Finally we want to recognize the efforts of Klara, André, Samara, Carla &
Arjan to help us in this transition period.
Giovanni Ávila-Flores.
