I would like to reiterate what Niklas just shared. I would like to express
my interest in joining the Executive Team with Nina, Giovanni, and Niklas.
Here's a brief introduction about me:
Nita Shashidharan is a Ph.D. student in "Conservation Science and
Sustainability Studies" at Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the
Environment (ATREE), India. She works on understanding ecosystem services
and human wellbeing under land-use change in a protected area in South
India. As an ET member, she is interested in supporting YESS members in
their growth in the field of ecosystem services and engaging in local
<->global capacity and network building of the ES community.
Shall see you all at the upcoming General Assembly.

Niklas Weins is a second-year PhD candidate in "Environment and Society"
at the University of Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil. He is a political
scientist / environmental sociologist and works on actor configurations in
Payments for watershed Ecosystem Services arrangements in peri-urban areas
and has accompanied the Americas Assessment of IPBES. As an ET member of
YESS he is interested in internationalizing the network in the Global South
and strengthening regional ties.

Dear YESSers, we hope you are fine.
Through this message, we, Giovanni and Nina, want to announce our joint
candidacy for the next YESS Executive Team (ET) 2021. When we started as ET
last year, everything was completely new for us, but we learned a lot and
managed to do various activities for our community. We will present an
overview about the activities on the YESS general Assembly, October 23rd.
However, some projects could not be realized due to the conditions related
to COVID-19, such as the YESS sessions in ESP Europe and ACES and a revival
of the journal club.
From this, we would like to continue working for our community. We are
currently planning a one-day event next year, a YESS conference, to bring
the community closer together. Specifically, this means bringing together
people working in the same research area so that they can benefit from each
other, in terms peer-exchange, collaboration, joint publications or even to
write a joint research proposal. Due to the recent growth in membership, it
is becoming increasingly difficult for individuals to identify people
working in the same field or to identify where there is potential for
collaboration. One of the strongest advantages of our community is that we
have such a large resource of experts, and we need to strengthen this
aspect.
However, to realize our plans, we also need your support. Therefore, we
encourage YOU to join us and to nominate yourself for the new ET! The ET
can have a number of 5 people.
For new members, we will make a brief description of ourselves:
- Nina Kaiser is a doctoral candidate in her third year at the
University Duisburg-Essen, Germany (Aquatic ecology), and works on the
effects of river restoration on ecosystem services. At present with a
focus
on social media for the assessment of cultural ecosystem services and
associated values. She is interested in international collaboration.
- Giovanni Ávila-Flores is a PhD candidate in his last semester at
the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur, Mexico (Marine and
Coastal Sciences). He works in an integrated assessment of mangrove
ecosystem, being a chapter focused on ecosystem services. In the last
three
years, he has actively participated with YESS, being part of the YESS
delegations in IPBES and participating in various related activities.
