This morning I got out to Agency Creek north of Grand Ronde in Yamhill
County 8:30 - 12:30. I found several FOY birds:
The first surprising find was 7 PURPLE MARTINS at a clearcut just 0.4 miles
up from the start of the road, using 2 standing spars with woodpecker holes.
Half a mile further, I heard a raptor-like call when I got out of the car,
which turned out to be a CANADA JAY.
At mile 2.1 I heard MOUNTIAN QUAIL to the west across the creek in a
regrowth area.
At an area with lots of alders I was serenaded by at least 5 invisible
WESTERN TANAGERS.
At mile 3, I walked up a side road and found HERMIT WARBLERS, plus Chipping
Sparrow, Band-tailed Pigeon. C-b Chickadee.
Near milepost 5.5 I found Dippers.
Pacific-slope Flycatcher and Wilson's Warblers were heard at almost every
stop.
I walked a mile above Big Buck Campground at noon, but it was pretty quiet.
