The former Vallee's Square / Bridge Street Intersection WAS a Signal
Controlled Intersection before the new Bridge Street Bridge was built and
the Main Street / Bridge Street Intersection WAS relocated.
The old Intersection had the odd duck CVS entrance / exit but with traffic
signals. Now, the CVS Intersection is still sitting there but no more
traffic signals and it is essentially mimicking a 4 Way Intersection
without ANY Traffic Control Signals.
Three Marked Crosswalks I think.
Any Pedestrians need to have 360 Degrees Vision because of the lack of
Traffic Control Signals ( or would the Intersection be more dangerous with
TCS.) and the many variables of traffic happening simultaneously in that
Intersection, as I believe Human Driver Courtesy or the Lack of Human
Driver Courtesy is the Only " Control " for traffic in the former Vallee's
Square.
That Fact and the Three Intersections: WCD / Stroudwater ~
WCD / Spring ~ WCD / Mechanic are supposed to be designed and built to "
Standard Practice " norms.
But, in my view, the bottleneck at WCD / Saco Street and the number of 4
Way Intersections along with Pedestrians of many types and the increasing
amount of Immigrants - Throws out the " Standard Practice"
I crossed WCD tonight at Stroudwater Street in two manners around 6:45 PM
. When the Pedestrian activated Crosswalk and Signals System is working
as designed and activated by a Pedestrian, it may rerequire using all three
Crosswalks. What is darn scary and frightening at any given time, is the
amount of Traffic, the Speed of Traffic, the Physical Size of Trucks and
the Traffic Noise. Any electrical mechanical malfunctions in the
Pedestrian activated audible
Tone or the Traffic Control Signals can lead to serious consequences. Add
human into that Driver and we have a problem.I
