That is indeed egregious. Glad your friend was able to report it. I hope
the owner got a good talking to from the SPPD.
I've yelled at several motorists this week from on my bike, one running a
red light (following those who were rushing the yellow), and the other
stopped at an intersection holding their phone to their ear, waiting to
turn across my path. That and a dozen or so instances of failure to signal
a turn and failure to stop at a stop sign, stop line, or crosswalk, are a
typical bike commuting week for me. BUT, I have to keep reminding myself
that these are the standouts, not the norm.

Last week a friend was headed out of South Portland on Broadway
approaching a big intersection at rush hour.
A driver in an SUV with a cell phone glued to the ear crossed the
center line, passing stopped traffic, running the red light while a
pedestrian warning sign was flashing.
My friend got the license number reporting the incident when able to
stop to call.
These kind of events are what rattle me.
