John, Thanks !
Before dinner Wednesday afternoon, I went for a walk via Falmouth, Pierce,
Cumberland, Bridge to Falmouth Streets. This was around 5 pm.
Upper Cumberland Street from Webster to Pierce was all rebuilt with new
Sidewalks both sides. What surprised and scares me a bit - was how Fast
incoming traffic from Windham way was zipping down Cumberland Street. Its a
clear shot from the Intersection with Route 202 and the River Road in South
Windham - 6 Miles of brand new Road surface. The Speed limit drops down to 30 -
25 when you come down the hill from the Golf Course - the former Ponderosa on
Cumberland before the Windham line. There is a flashing Light at the Pierce
Street T intersection. There was more incoming Traffic than outgoing yesterday.
Everyone was hitting their Brakes when traffic started backing up for the
Signals at Severino's Store at Bridge and Cumberland Streets which will be
starting a major intersection Rebuild soon for new Turning Lanes and new
Traffic Signals for Pedestrian Crosswalks.
I would like to request having one of the new mobile White Speed Recording
Trailers installed 1/2 Way down on Cumberland Street between Pierce and Webster
Streets for Incoming Traffic. I also am curious if there will be any temporary
Traffic Detour for the Intersection Construction at Bridge and Cumberland
Streets - via Brown - Myrtle - Bridge - Falmouth to Pierce to Cumberland.
Yes, the " Yield " for a Ticket is imaginative.
Dennis

Thanks, Dennis! I'm forwarding this to the list.
I like the little joke at the end, that drivers "may have to yield a few
minutes of their time to get a ticket from the police." ! :-)

WPD eyes pedestrian safetyThe Westbrook Police Department has been awarded a
grant to focus on pedestrian safety issues. The department has begun assigning
officer details that will focus on crosswalk safety, according to a Facebook
post on the police department’s page.Police see issues throughout the city,
with vehicles failing to yield to pedestrians who are in crosswalks and
creating a dangerous situation, the post said.Officers will be on the lookout
for violators this spring and summer. Drivers are reminded to yield to
pedestrians in a crosswalk, or they may have to yield a few minutes of their
time to get a ticket from the police.
