Float for the WSMAC with her Car ! Kristi, Dennis and John handed out
Dozens of Brochures and Info Sheets on being a Safe Pedestrian and a Safe
Bicyclist and a Safe Motorist. I focused on handing out " So Your Child
Wants a Bicycle " brochures to Parents with Children along the Parade route
until we ran out.
I overheard some of the conversation with John and the man concerning
Cumberland and Brown Streets, at our WSMAC Table. The early morning
Commuter traffic funnels the River Road Artery all the way from Bridgton
and Windham into Westbrook and Cumberland Streets with Bridge Street, Park
Road and Brown Street the primary offshoots, similar to an electrical
circuit.
In the afternoon, Monday to Friday, the situation reverses, with Brown
Street becoming an Alternate Escape Route or Detour for Homeward bound
Commuters, backed up on Cumberland Street, sometimes from 3:00PM - 6:00PM,
all the way back to the intersection of Main and Riverside Streets. I can
understand the man's frustration and concern, seeing the unsafe and
dangerous actions by impatient commuters at the
" T " Intersection of Brown and Cumberland Streets every afternoon.
Overall, I think A lot of people know about the WSMAC now, due to our
participation in Westbrook Together Days, both in the Parade and with our
Table, dedicated Team: John, Sarah, Robert, Kim, Kristi and LeeLee' s
Great Posters, and " Walnut' s " interaction with Children !!!.
