John, Lee:
The Winter Holiday Season is nigh. And for the next 30 Days, Daylight will
be less and less , snow, slippery roads and crosswalks. I want to post a
Visual Observation. Any motor vehicle Operator / Driver coming FROM Main
Street after turning R or L onto Bridge Street, first comes upon a Marked
Crosswalk BEFORE driving across the Presumpscot River Bridge. From my
perspective, the Crosswalk which connects the Upstream and Downstream sides of
the River Boardwalk across Bridge Street, has BRIGHT ENOUGH SPREAD PATTERNS FOR
THE OVERHEAD LIGHTS ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE BUT THERE ARE NO OVERHEAD LIGHTS AT
ALL ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE CROSSWALK.
Was there an assumption that there would be more people - ie - Pedestrians -
walking over to the Upstream Side of the River Boardwalk to look at the Falls
from the Restaurants on the Downstream side but less Pedestrians walking over
from the west side of Main Street ?? Or, the new " Ped " Walking Only Green
Bridge on the Downstream side of the River in place of the old Vehicular Bridge
is supposed to carry All the Pedestrian Traffic.
This probably will NOT be changed until next Summer. Drivers turning Right or
Left from Main Street to Bridge Street are moving quite fast until they
encounter 2 Obstacles: One or more Pedestrians at the Marked Crosswalk or MMC
Employees trying to head home from their Offices from Dana Court - Mostly
turning Left onto Main Street and across the Bridge.
The Problem here is a Lack of Lighting on the Left Side of that Crosswalk if a
Driver is coming up Bridge Street from Main Street and on the Right Side if a
Driver is coming down Bridge Street from Dana Court or Brown Street around the
sharp Righthand Curve onto the Bridge and the Marked Crosswalk, If there have
NOT been any documented Reports or Close Calls for Pedestrians on that Marked
Crosswalk or if there have been but nobody bothered to report it, Everyone is
Very Lucky.....
Thank YouDennis Marrotte

WSMAC Monthly Meeting
Wednesday, November 20, 2019, 5:30 PM
Dunkin, Main Street, Westbrook
1. Conversation with Chief Roberts: Westbrook Chief of Police Janine Roberts
will attend the first part of our meeting to tell us what she is able to about
September's pedestrian fatality on Austin Street. There may or may not be an
opportunity to ask her any questions we may have on other topics.
OLD BUSINESS
2. Final bylaw review and vote: Hopefully you received the current bylaw copy
that I sent out on Sunday evening; an identical one is attached here for your
convenience. If you have time to read it, especially the highlighted parts
which have changed, that would help move the discussion along more quickly.
Following the bylaws discussion, we will hold the final vote on them.
3. Winter maintenance discussion: Continuing our discussion from last time,
primarily an ongoing listing of hazardous condition, and letter to private
businesses reminding them of their responsibilities around snow shoveling.
