The intersection Dennis speaks of is now at least 3 years out in the planning
process. Hard to lose sleep over that - in the present.
The “triangle” safety considerations are of a much more urgent nature.

My concern with WCD is : When the western end Upgrade of WCD and it's
Intersection with Saco Street, New Gorham Road and Rte. 25 and WCD has 2
Thru Lanes E and W, from that Intersection to the Lights at Hannafords, WCD
will morph to a 4 Lane Racetrack East and West.
I would hope, also, that the Upgrade at the West end of WCD and the added
Thru Lanes will relieve the pressure and Traffic Backups on Main Street and
the short connectors for Spring, Stroudwater and Mechanic Streets
The only " Speed Controls " will be the Traffic Signals at Mechanic, Spring,
Stroudwater and Hannafords. The Signalized Marked Crosswalks will become an
Obstacle to Drivers. To keep traffic at a " Survivable " Speed for
Pedestrians, Physically Handicapped people, Bicylists and other sane
Drivers, the WCD Speed Limit East and West from Hannaford to the Saco
Street, New Gorham Road Intersection should be 25 MPH.
The " DO NOT BLOCK INTERSECTION " at Mechanic Street and WCD was initiated
thru an E - Mail and photo to WPD Chief Janine Roberts, who performed a lot
of research and Public Services Director Eric Dudley, who first set up one
of the Mobile Trailer Signs while a permanent post mounted Sign was created
and installed.
The Traffic Backup at Spring Street across WCD has been an ongoing problem
for a good while. I would like to know if the WFD and Rescue have
encountered problems at the WCD / Spring Street Intersection when they have
a Call Westbound down WCD during late afternoon, early evening Rush Hours ?

If blocking an intersection is a recurring problem at an intersection, I
suppose we could make that signage request to Eric.

My concern is that 35MPH, the current Speed Limit, will be too fast with
the two Thru Lanes in both directions, which could, possibly lead to more
accidents , and Pedestrians being injured or fatally injured. Perhaps,
25 MPH could be the new Speed Limit when the upgrade work is completed.
Another concern is seeing angry drivers west bound,, on WCD last night at
the Spring Street Intersection, due to drivers coming downhill, on
Spring, across WCD, and not paying attention to the changing traffic
signals resulting in all 4 lanes of WCD being blocked, with the Spring
Street lane to Main Street backed up across WCD.
Perhaps a " DO NOT BLOCK INTERSECTION " SIGN/S should be installed on the
South side of Spring Street. That has worked very well at the WCD
westbound lanes at the Mechanic Street Intersection.
