I just obtained this document
from the BCM, providing results of before and after traffic studies they
did around the original Imagine People Here project we did in the summer of
2020, when we enhanced the paint around certain Main Street crosswalks and
The study looked at both traffic speed and pedestrian yield behavior,
before and after the installation. Speeds were not actually affected all
that much, slightly but not significantly lower in all cases. However,
yield behavior had more dramatic results, with the odd exception of Giles
Street, in front of Blazes and Riverbank Park. We think this may be because
the delimiter there was knocked over early on, so was not actually present
during the after studies.
I think this makes a good case for restoring the delimiters
wherever possible, and we should use that in our requests for the City to
restore them this summer.
I've saved the file in our Google Drive area, and I'll try to remember to
upload it to our website when I have time.
