Sounds like a speeding and/or distracted motorist, if he couldn't see the
buggy at 10 in the morning on a sunny day (judging from the photo), *before
*it went around a corner. The story also notes the motorist was charged
with operating under suspension as a habitual offender. So many of these
crashes seem to involve habitual offenders or those without licenses.
Definitely a pattern. :-(
Interesting that the two passengers in the buggy were from near where I
grew up in Northern New York state. Visitors, I guess.

This occurred near Whitefield in Lincoln County. 3 people were in the
Buggy, turning Right when the SUV came up behind it, tried to swerve Left
to miss it but the passenger side of the SUV caught the back of the Buggy,
and flipped it over into the Right side ditch. The Buggy Operator and two
passengers were all residents of an Amish Community near Whitefield.
Neither of the 3 in the Buggy, it's Horse or the driver of the SUV had
injuries. As I can recall, similar Accidents have happened further north
in Arrostook Country, with other Amish Communities whose residents have
moved to Rural Maine from more traditional communities in the Midwest.
