I beg this group to stay focused on not “pointing fingers”…remember, it’s a
2-way street…pedestrians do bad/wrong things, as do drivers…keep working toward
common/good solutions. Kathy Clarrage

I’ve been dressed down for pointing out exactly what you are pointing out.
I heard at the very first meeting that this was not an enforcement issue. I
know the Police cannot be everywhere. This being said, are traffic laws a
suggestion or a law?
This brings me back to the question, how do we address what drivers “should”
do?
How do we teach courtesy to folks trying to get to where they’re going in a
hurry?
What I try to contribute to these discussions are from the point of view of
a blind pedestrian who once was a sighted driver.
For me, if I ever choose to travel on foot again amongst this craziness, the
best thing for me is bright crosswalks and my reflective vest.
I’ve also been dressed down for my boat airhorn I used to carry. I was told
I would scare drivers. The horn is no louder than a semi’s horn.
I just bought 2 new ones just in case I travel again.

Thank You Carson. You are correct.
There are No Signs posted:
" No Right Turn on Red "
But, I would think There should be a form of Courtesy shown to drivers who
have the Green Left Turn Arrow. Are people in that much of a hurry 10 PM at
night ?
I was waiting to turn L onto Bridge Street from Severino' s Store Parking Lot
last week, and heard Sirens coming from somewhere, reverberating off houses. A
Van coming up Bridge Street had a green lght to go straight across Cumberland
or turn R onto Cumberland, when The Sirens appeared in the form of a Westbrook
Rescue Ambulance, coming up Cumberland from Cumberland Mills, and wanting to
turn L onto Bridge Street. It stopped suddenly when its driver saw the Van that
turned R onto Cumberland fortunately - instead of going up Bridge Street which
would have placed the Van squarely in front of the Rescue. The Rescue went to
a home on Beechwood Avenue, off Bridge Street, before Everett Street.

It sounds like the 2 right turnerws are not following the right on red rule.
Of course, being blind I don’t know if there is an allowed right on red for
West bound, soon to be right turners at Maine and Bridge.

Subject: [wsmac] Question about Turning at Intersection of Main Street and new
Bridge Street Lights.
This was a problem for umpteen years at the former Vallee' s Square
Intersection of Bridge and Main Streets.
Now, the same infraction is happening at the new Intersection of Main Street
and the new Bridge Street.
Example: I am stopped in the Eastbound Left Turn Lane of Main Street at the
Intersection with the new Bridge Street. I am waiting for the Green Left Turn
Arrow which comes on with the Eastbound straight thru Main Street Green Light.
Time is 10PM Thursday January 18th, 2018. My Left Turn Signals are working.
When the Green Left Turn Lane Arrow comes on, I am looking at westbound Main
Street traffic stopped. As I start to turn L into Bridge Street, two small red
cars,
both in the Westbound Main Street Right Turn Lane for Bridge Street,
The same Lane I have a Left Turn Green Arrow for, pull out ahead of me and turn
Right onto Bridge Street. I am not in a hurry, but I have to stop in mid turn,
to let these two drivers have their way. Fortunately,
The pavement is dry, and it's not snowing like blazes. I am getting sick of
this. Who is supposed to yield or who have the right of way?
Thank You,
Dennis Marrotte
