I was invited to visit and stay with friends of my Archangel Interpreter in
Arctic Norway in August ' 99.  Batsfjord, Norway is on the Varanger
Peninsula, on the Barents Sea.

Rte. 391, I think, turns off North, from the E6, a Major Highway from the
Border of Norway and Russia,  down the Norwegian Coast to Sweden and over a
Long Suspension Bridge to Denmark.

Up in the Arctic, it's very common to see Reindeer wandering from the high
Tundra and crossing a Road, with their Saami Herders closeby.

I was told that in the long Arctic Darkness,  drivers, including over the
road Lorry Drivers, will travel in Convoy formation in the event of a
Blizzard or Whiteout conditions.

The mountain Pass on Rte. 391, and the Landscape looked like I was on the
upper 2 Miles of the Mount Washington Auto Road.

Hmm Interesting John !

I recall seeing a TV Commercial by
VOLVO, I think, showing a Man, Swedish or Norwegian,  driving up there at
Night, on a paved highway along a long curve,  and suddenly his Adaptive
Headlights see a REINDEER about to step in front of him onto the Road. He
slows down avoiding striking the Reindeer...

A bit of good news!

This final rule will improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists by
making them more visible at night, and will help prevent crashes by better
illuminating animals and objects in and along the road."

I was blown away when renting a non-luxury car in Scotland in 2017 that
this headlight technology was not already available in the US (only to
discover that the US transportation bureaucracy basically blocked it for
years).
