The Forest Street Traffic and Interviews by some residents recalled in my
memory an interesting conversation several years ago during a public forum
held at the Fireside Inn on Riverside Street. The MEDOT Engineers and
Westbrook City Officials were present to present the plans for the latest
Upgrade of WCD, the last Upgrade, I believe as it is now.
A colleague of mine where we both were employed asked about having WPD do
more speed controls on the residential street where he and his family lives
and still do today. Comnutters were flying thru their neighborhood off
Spring Street to avoid the construction on WCD.
The answer he was given was not exactly what he was hoping for. The next
morning, We met by chance at work. I can not print his comments here......
The Forest Street residents are experiencing what my friend was
experiencing for the duration of the WCD construction, Everyday sometimes
morning and afternoons. And, because of the traffic back ups nowdays on
WCD, some people, probably are cutting thru Side Streets off Spring Street
to the Mechanic Street Lights, heading West.
Until The Western junction of WCD, with Saco, New Portland Road and Main
Streets are finally built the way they were supposed to be AND the
reconstruction of the Cumberland Mills Triangle is done, Forest Street will
be a problem and people will also detour thru Side Streets off Spring
Street to Mechanic Street and WCD.
