You all are awesome…love your energy. Just a quick FYI, I attended a statewide
transportation network conference in Augusta and at the “resource table”, DOT
has lots of “MDOT flash cards” which offers several transportation questions
(ex. Which driver error leads to most serious injuries in Maine? A. illegal or
unsafe speed B. inattention/distraction…and then (upside down) it gives the
answer (A), these are cute “collector cards” with their mascots “Flash and
Motor Moose” on the front. They also had brochures “Hot Safety Tips from Flash
for Maine Kids and their road models”…nice little brochure. AND they had at
least 2 cute little “stickers” reminding folks to be safe on the streets.
Don’t know if DOT would give you these for “free” (might!), but I know you all
were looking for handouts/ed items…just sharing! Kathy

Subject: [wsmac] Re: WSMAC @ WTD
Hi all, some responses and thoughts on John's email:
* We will not be able to stop the bus - the parade moves continuously once
it starts.
* We should, however, be able to decorate the bus. I need to confirm this.
As far as time to decorate: "Parade line-up will begin promptly at 8:45 a.m. on
Saturday and each group must check in with a parade volunteer upon arrival to
find your staging location." The parade starts at 10am, so there would be at
least one hour, 15 minutes. We could see if Metro is able to meet earlier in a
different location.
* Raffle is allowed.
* I'll make the request to be placed next to Ernie's in the parade lineup.
I don't think it should be an issue.
* I'm not sure about electricity. I'd tend towards probably not, but it all
depends where our booth is placed. I didn't specifically request electricity,
but the vendor coordinator might put me near some anyway.
* We can possibly help with change. I'd need to figure out a way to keep
track, though.
And, a question: how many people total from WSMAC will be riding on the bus? I
need to get back in touch with Metro to confirm the number of people we have.
Thank you!
Abigail

Subject: [wsmac] WSMAC 5/16 Meeting Notes, Westbrook Together Days discussion
And here's what we talked about regarding WTD. Note tasks for people in *red
bold*.
Also, *Abigail*, can you answer the 4 "Need to know" questions we came up,
or point us to the proper person to do so?
Still looking for more signage for parade. Kim will arrange a sign-making
party with Lee and Kristi.
Kim distributed name tags. Also passed around the song list for the parade.
Some desire was expressed to concentrate on decorating the bus, rather than
have a car. We discussed with Kristi some reasons pro and con. For
instance, we can demonstrate the wheelchair getting on and off the bus,
including if the wheelchair dies.
Sylvia suggests having the bus stop occasionally and demonstrate putting
the bike on the bus rack or taking it off.
Raffle off safety gear? Wallingfords can donate some stuff. We can also put
together packages of items that we buy. Kim will look into whether a raffle
is allowed. Raffle drawing sometime evening, pickup there if they are still
there, or at Ernie’s. Kim will float the expense herself, trusting to be
paid back later.
Different kinds of things (small basket, large basket, reflective vests),
people can put tickets in the bucket for the thing they want to win.
Raffle tickets will probably be $1/ticket, or $5 for a bunch. What about
making change?
Need to know:
1. Can we decorate the bus, and how much time will we have?
2. Possible to have Ernie’s spot in the parade near the bus?
3. Will bus be at the park during the day? We could demonstrate using
the bike rack.
4. Will our table have electricity?
Kristi suggests setting up a Clynk account for WSMAC. We agreed to hear
more about this in the future. John will send Kristi the email address for
our domain.
We can still collect bottles and cans at our table. Can we decorate boxes
for this at the sign decorating gathering?
Also, problem area suggestion box. Someone (Kim?) made up paper suggestion
forms recently; we can use those.
