To Whom This Concerns:
I just returned home from the Northgate Shopping Area in Portland via
Riverside, East Bridge and Bridge Streets.
Driving on Bridge Street, towards the Cumberland Street Intersection,
there is a Marked Crosswalk at the T Intersection of Lugrin and Bridge
Streets, with the Diamond Shaped YELLOW Sign and downward pointing Arrow
and Pedestrian Figure. A Woman walking with her Dog, on a leash, was
standing on the Lugrin Street side, patiently waiting for traffic to Stop
at the Crosswalk. I came to a Stop. She took a Step forward and here came a
speeding Toyota 4R the other way. She stepped back, pulling her Dog back
with the leash. The Toyota Driver came to a Stop just in time. The Woman
Pedestrian started across and gave me a Wave with her free hand. I made Eye
Contact with the Driver of the Toyota 4R. And, NO, I did not get his
License Plate.
I sent an E - Mail in Spring to The WPD, I do not recall if I CC to Public
Service, asking to have a Trailer Sign on Bridge Street between Cumberland
and Chestnut or Pierce Streets. I believe there was such a Trailer Speed
Limit Sign for 25MPH on East Bridge Street between Methodist and Park Roads
some time ago.
This close call today on Bridge Street at the Lugrin Street Crosswalk,
proves a Trailer Speed Limit Sign is needed there on that section of Bridge
Street. I noticed there was a Trailer Sign, near City Hall , announcing the
Fourth of July and the next Rock Row Concert well after July 4th had come
and gone.
