Dear Westbrook pedestrian committee… I am soliciting your assistance in
helping me to advocate for a pedestrian crosswalk in the newly paved/marked
parking lot at the community center. I tried desperately to bring this to the
attention of the director at the community center while the paving and striping
was going on, but my suggestion was not received well. I have since tried to
follow up with emphasizing the importance of a marked pedestrian pathway in
that very very wide very very busy parking lot but again I’ve heard it’s not on
the radar. I feel very very strongly that that parking lot would most benefit
from a raise to crossed walk to slow traffic in that crazy area, but would
settle for a wide white striped marking. I think it’s a crime in shame that
people don’t think of pedestrians and now that we have Metro stop being on
Bridge Street for the community center there will be even more (there already
Is) Destry in traffic getting from Bridge Street up to the community center
building. I’m baffled that there would be resistance to this… I realize it
might mean giving up one or two parking spots… White cars always roll?? Anyways
any assistance you can give to this very important matter would be greatly
appreciated and of course if it isn’t done soon then it will be winter and it’s
too cold to stripe now. Love the efforts of this committee I think together our
voices are getting stronger in this community… It’s a process! Kathy Clarrage
