This video, filmed by two young Irish women, shows amazingly beautiful flock formations of European Starlings coming in to their nighttime roost on an island in the River Shannon. The news says this video has "gone viral," which I guess means people all over the world are looking at it: http://vimeo.com/31158841 Some other very nice videos and/or photo collections of starling flocks: http://news.bbc.co.uk/earth/hi/earth_news/newsid_9175000/9175793.stm http://asecondsglance.com/2010/07/paolo-patrizi-european-starlings/#more-2967 It is interesting to reflect that, once upon a time, perhaps there were many bird species abundant enough to provide such amazing displays. Today, I can only think of starlings, various "blackbird" species around the world, and some shorebird species that do so. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Tod Highsmith Madison, Dane County #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
