I'm also a fan of Canon Powershot cameras, and, more specifically, the SX30. The high megapixels allow one to extensively crop a photo, yet still retain a crisp image. However, I agree with the deficiencies that have been mentioned, especially as regards the frustrating slowness of zooming in and focusing on a bird, only to have it fly away. It is very difficult to get a satisfying photo of a warbler moving within the foliage. If the SX40 with the improved burst mode had been available four months ago, I might have opted for that. That would definitely improve the odds of obtaining a satisfying warbler pic. Of course, being a penny-pincher, the price would have to be right. Hoping to see some redpolls before my ten days in the state are up. I wouldn't mind a Snowy Owl, either, but I'm not holding my (frosty) breath.
