Thanks Ryan. I hope someone else sees the bird to confirm or change the ID. I watched it for about 5 minutes and I felt that the yellow on the belly stopped much further down than Couch's/Tropical. It looked spot on like the Western Kingbird in Petersen. It definitely had that paler overall appearance. But, I wish I had a nickel for every ID error I've ever made. I checked Sibley and Nat"l Geo field guides when I got home and still feel it was Western. I've seen a fair number of Western Kingbirds but only a couple each of Couch's and Ash-Throated and no Tropical. With Western Kingbird's normal range being so much closer, I'm curious why the other three kingbirds would be equally or more likely at this time of year. Also, sorry for the typo in the subject line. Also sorry I never did see the scissor-tailed. However, there was a Western kingbird in front of an old barn just east of CR E on CR O. It was perching on the tires of an abandoned piece of farm equipment and catching insects in the weedy ditch by the road. > It had a yellow belly, light gray head and upper breast and squared off tail and definitely was not a scissor-tailed. > > I am going to continue looking for the scissor-tailed for a while and will post if I find it.
