Have tried to keep a high bar of getting enough quality looks before adding a
species to my ABA Area Life List. Having said that, over the years, Iâve
compiled a small list of species I would really like to see again, if given the
opportunity. When I got up this morning, in Superior, there were four species
on the list: Spectacled Eider, Yellow Green Vireo, Brambling. And Rossâs
Gull.
I saw one a few years back flying way out over a lake, in the fog, in the
middle of Iowa, with several fellow birders, for a couple hours. Counted it,
but have always wanted to see another one close up, and perfect world, see the
beautiful rosy pink wash on its underparts.
A Rossâs Gull, found by Peder Svingen a few days ago at Wisconsin Point,
continues. Hereâs a video of the bird feeding on the beach early this
morning, complete with a nice pink wash:

Also, here is a video of a hefty, large, very white winged Glaucous Gull in
flight about a month ago off the shore of Lake Michigan in Ozaukee County. The
second half of the video shows the gull in the water, with a pink bill that has
a demarcated dark tip, suggesting this is a juvenile bird. For awhile I was
thinking leucism, but I read that first winter Glaucous Gulls can be almost
entirely white, due to wear and bleaching of their feathers late in winter. If
anyone has a different ID, by all means, please weigh in:
