FIGURE 8 DIKE SYSTEM   Saturday AM
The dike system and other paths have recently been mowed and access is
excellent to the "figure 8" dikes.  No bugs out on the dike but a few flies on
the way out.

Shorebird habitat is excellent in the farthest pool. There are abundant
!!! Killdeer and numerous Solitary and Pectoral Sandpipers.  Also seen were a
few Semipalmated Plovers, Least SP, and Spotted SP.  The best sighting was a
pair of Long-billed Dowitchers in full breeding plumage - beautiful "robin-red"
breast and belly and even had long bills.  There was a large (female) Osprey
roosting in a dead tree on the west end. Conspicuous by absence were
Yellowlegs. Also no Pelicans or Egrets in this area. 36 species from the
parking lot to the dikes.

You can cross Hwy 83 (signs are misleading) on Sugden Rd.to get to Frog
Alley and then go to the end of the road to the paved parking area.  The dikes
are to the north and east of the parking area.
