To me, one sure sign of spring is the noticeable updates of a European Starling's repertoire. Yesterday in my yard I watched and listened as a Starling perch high in one of our trees serenaded anyone or anything that would listen. In a matter of a few minutes he did Robin, Red-winged blackbird, Eastern Bluebird, House Finch, Killdeer, Grackle, Red-tailed Hawk, Chickadee and the rattling flight call of an Eastern Meadowlark that any self-conscience Northern Mockingbird would be proud to call his own, I was impressed.
