A pair of Red-necked Grebes in breeding plumage were reported to me by John Bielefeldt on Tuesday, June 2nd. I viewed them yesterday and again this morning. They tend to stay more to the west in front of the cattails. Cormorants, Black Terns and Forster's terns were also seen. A scope is very helpful and morning is best in terms of lighting. The location is called Beaver Dam Lake and Marsh, not to be confused with Beaver Dam Lake in Dodge Co. In the 5th edition Bird Haunts, see page 408, Area E. Directions: From I-94 and Hwy 67, head south past Dousman for 8 miles until you come to Cty CI. Go west on CI for 3.5 miles. A small parking area and boat launch on your left provides a view of the lake, though high water prevents one from getting past the trees that partially obscure the view.
