Birding 101 and walk at Newport SP on Saturday, May 19th at 7 am.
We are Sarah & Bill Krouse, and we are amateur Ornithologists (birders). We
have been inspired to share nature by legendary environmentalists like Door
Countyâs own Roy & Charlotte Lukes, and we will be your guides for a fun &
interesting program about birds. Birders of all experience are welcome for
Birding 101, from beginner to advanced.
Please come and join Naturalist Beth Bartoli and the Krouses!!
The program will include basic birding information and a leisurely walk in
Newport SP on relatively easy trails to look for spring migrants. We can answer
questions about basic birding topics, including optics and birding etiquette.
We will assist with identifying birds, many of whom nest at the park. Spring is
when the birds put on their best show, with brilliant colors and cheerful
songs. Many of the birds are making a pilgrimage of thousands of miles from
where they overwinter in the tropics, to their nesting grounds in the north. We
will explore forests, forest edges, and meadows for our target birds, like
warblers, buntings, orioles, grosbeaks and others. The unique habitat in Door
County makes it a funnel for many interesting visitors, and you never know what
we might find!
Bird program starts at 7:00 am in the welcome center at the entry to the park,
on Saturday, May 19th. Dress for the weather, and bring binoculars and a field
guide if you have one. If you do not, we can loan them to you.
