After fighting a nasty cold ever since I got back from Jaegerfest, I finally got down to Lake Barney/Swan Pond south of Madison late this afternoon. The large patch of smartweed a half-mile or so south of the entrance was full of sparrows, but everything I was kicking up was a Swamp, Song, or Savannah. Finally, near the southeast end, I spotted a Nelson's Sparrow, which was fairly cooperative and gave me some nice, close looks. I also flushed three Soras, and three Wilson's Snipe flew around overhead a couple of times.
