Hi all, Tom Prestby and I were out from 4:15AM until about 2:30 PM today for the Mount Horeb CBC. Owling was excellent before sun up--18 Owls Eastern Screech-Owl 10 Great Horned Owl 2 Barred Owl 4 Northern Saw-whet Owl 2 We had a good deal of open water along the many streams in the area. The streams had: Canada Goose 12 Mallard 13 Great Blue Heron 1 Belted Kingfisher 1 Spread manure in open fields attracted: Wild Turkey 109 Horned Lark 32 Lapland Longspur 8 Snow Bunting 53 Often perched above the large Wild Turkey flocks were Bald Eagle 3 Other Raptors: Cooper's Hawk 1 Red-tailed Hawk 17 Rough-legged Hawk 4 Had my first RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS in the area...
