To those who visited my 26 acre wildlife property on the Miss.River Bluffs
at the convention.
I identified 32 species of birds nesting over 18 year period. Lost for the
past five years are bobolinks, savannah sparrows, eastern meadowlarks,
yellow-throated warblers, and sedge wrens.

This year was no exception to the others. *Look for nests. Keep a safe
distance. Avoid cowbirds. Record my findings. *Unfortunately, one nest was
found by my dog, who did not disturb it, but the adult song sparrow never
came back.

Four song sparrow nests: 3 destroyed, one with hatchling's gone. One nest
is still active on the ground hidden in dead grass.

Note: 7 species of snakes on my property, black rats are abundant.

One E. Towhee: hatchlings are surviving after six days. The nest was in an
exposed location under a pine tree and near an area frequented by black rat
snakes. Thus, I put hardware cloth and snake away in an 8
ft. diameter surrounding the nest.

One robin nest was destroyed. Two others are active.
One catbird nest was destroyed. This bird was rebuilding in my dogwoods.
Three chipping sparrow nests, all doing well with no cowbird eggs.

One chickadee nest in a tree tube. Hatchlings are five days old.

Barred Owls nested in my woods. The nesting success is unknown.

Two bluebird nests active:

Three grosbeak nests active:

One tanager nest active:

Two E. Phoebe nests active:

Other birds nesting here include cerulean and blue-winged warblers, acadian
flycather, many tufted titmice and seven species of woodpeckers,
yellow-throated, red-eyed, warbling vireos, and yellow-billed cuckoos.
I will update the nesting progress next week. Hopefully we will see
fledglings in a week.
