A group of three of us visited Sax-Zim and the Duluth harbor this past
Saturday. Thanks to a very generous birder for helping with some gull IDs at
Canal Park in DUluth. Observed at very close range- first winter Iceland Gull,
2nd winter Gr. Blk Back Gull, 2nd winter Thayer's Gull, 2nd winter Glaucous
Gull and numerous Ring Billed and Herring Gull. Also in the park were numerous
Common Goldeneyes and a single adult male Barrow's Goldeneye, many Mallards and
a Black Duck.
In Sax-Zim we observed a Great Gray Owl, numerous White-Winged Crossbills,
Common Redpolls, Pine Grosbeaks, ROugh-Legged Hawks, Evening Grosbeaks, and a
single Blk-Backed Woodpecker and Boreal Chickadee. A very good trip overall.
Much slower back in Hudson.
