Hello Tina, Many zoos use "Nektar-Plus" to feed captive hummers. This product has protein and other nutrients added. This can be fed in a standard hummer feeder and would be a replacement for the sugar-water you are probably feeding now. Here is a link to the product on a reputable online retailer's site: _http://www.squirrelsandmore.com/product/599/nektar-plus.htm_ (http://www.squirrelsandmore.com/product/599/nektar-plus.htm) We are using the product right now to over-winter an injured Ruby-throated Hummingbird in our wildlife hospital in Milwaukee. What if the Mequon Broad-Billed H. never leaves? I was curious if a bird nutrition specialist would be considering adding something to her diet. What would that be? Dried bugs added to nectar as if from a real flower with resident insects? I've been thinking.
