Hi All, Birded the Horicon area today. Ended up with 106 species.... guess that isn't too bad for a miserable day weatherwise. Horicon Marsh was very slow for passerines except for Yellow Warblers......they were everywhere. There were a few Yellow-throated Vireos in the woods by the DNR building in the city of Horicon. BN Stilts were seen on Hwy 49 and the pair previously reported on Rockvale Rd were also seen. I had no luck finding any on Dike Rd. itself though. 2 Ibises were seen on Hwy 49 but too far out and in too dim of light to tell for sure which flavor they were. A nice sight was 7 or 8 Wilson's Pharalopes west of the pumphouse in the shorebird spot. Coming back through this evening I was treated to an adult Bald Eagle making a close in pass along Hwy. 49. It also was seen hovering over a spot farther back in the marsh a bit later.... looked to be maybe trying to catch a diving duck. The Whooping Crane was present as well behind the pumphouse. Best spot for warblers and other small migrants was at Ledge Co. Park just east of the city of Horicon. Nice numbers and variety of warblers, including nice looks at a Black-throated Blue, a Blackburian and a beautiful Cerulean. This park is well worth the visit if in the Horicon area. Agree with others on the county in the headline issue. It's pretty much worthless to me..... much better able to know where sightings are by naming cities and birding areas. Outside of SE Wisconsin....... I pretty much have no idea which counties are where and what cities/areas to associate with them. Last time I was required to know where all of them were was probably back in 5th grade!
