Hello all,
Luke Dahlberg, Libby Zeman, Abbey Stark and I made the hike to Columbia County
this afternoon to hunt out shorebirds. We had ALOT of good luck today! As Jesse
Peterson has posted earlier we found the two Buff-breasted Sandpipers and the
American Avocet which were lifers for most of us (very cool and exciting
birds).

After scoping the west side of Harvey Road for an 1 1/2 hours we found at least
a dozen Stilt Sandpipers, plenty of Semipalmated Sandpipers, Least Sandpipers
and Pectoral Sandpipers. We turned around to face the east side of Harvey Road
and found a single immature Franklin's Gull (also very exciting). The whole
time we were at Harvey Road, Bobolinks were flying over us and making plenty of
noise. After the Franklins Gull another birder tipped us off to 3 Whooping
Cranes on Kronche Road, so we had to catch a glimpse of them.

Next, we went over to Goose Pond just to check things out. No Yellow-crowned
Night Heron...but there were about 8 American Golden Plovers and a single
Semipalmated Plover. While we there we ran into Jesse Peterson whcih tipped us
off on a Bairds Sandpiper at Harvey Road. So, after talking about how AWESOME
jaegerfest is going to be, we went back to Harvey Road to sort out a Bairds
Sandpiper. Fortunatley we were able to relocate the bird. All in all, a really
great day full of shorebirds...but not a single warbler.
