The USFWS is entering into the process that may lead to listing the Golden-winged Warbler as threatened or endangered. Golden-winged Warbler is one of a group of species that could be called the "poster children" of declining bird species. Due to changes in habitat, forest succession, forest management policies, climate change factors, and potentially from a list of hazards that these birds encounter during migration, this species is at risk in WI and elsewhere. The decline has been noticeable for some time. It is considered a Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN) in Wisconsin. Find out more at this link: http://www.wisconsinbirds.org/plan/species/gwwa.htm From the USFWS: "The Service will undertake a more thorough status review of the species to determine whether to propose adding the species to the federal lists of endangered and threatened wildlife and plants. Today's decision, known as a 90-day finding, is based on scientific information about the species provided in the petition asking the Service to list the warbler. The petition finding is the first step in a process that triggers a more thorough review of all the biological information available." William P.
