Hi All, Though not a bird in flight, eggs still count as bird stuff. I am hoping for anyone's help in identifying an egg(s). During this last week, I have found 2 identical eggs on the ground and at least an acre apart. They were both very light tan colored and about two-thirds the size of a small hen's egg. Regretfully, I discovered the second one while out for a walk in a field next to Rainbow Pond when I accidentally stepped on it. Needless to say, that one is no more. Inside was a dark-feathered chick though I can't be any more specific about markings given it's unfortunately crushed state. I found the second one on the other side of the farm near my barn where my faithful labradoodle Indie was repeatedly tossing it in the air, apparently trying to help it fly! That egg is intact. I have wondered if Indie managed unfortunately to find a ground nest somewhere or if some other creature such as a fox or coyote grabbed the eggs and spread them out on the farm, though I suspect such a creature would promptly eat them. I am left wondering if eggs this size could be wild turkey eggs or some other large bird such as crows or pheasants. I'd be grateful for help in identifying them. Thanks and best birding.
