After reading Bernie Sloan's post about the Red-winged Blackbirds that dive at people and pull up just an inch from their heads, I couldn't help but think of my boyhood friend Dicky. Each day in summer we would descend the wooden steps at Sheboygan's North Point to get to our favorite spot on the beach. As we were walking down the wooden stairway, we would be dive-bombed by Red-winged Blackbirds. At the time we didn't know it, but obviously we were too near their nests. One day, however, the birds did NOT pull up inches away from our heads, but instead actually drew blood from Dicky's head. It should be noted that Dicky had a head of bright red hair. Do you think he got hit because of his red hair? Being blond, I was not attacked quite so viciously. Just wondering... --Dave Brasser Sheboygan Sheboygan County "Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day.
