While on my morning walk at Lake Oschwald, I heard a call that was not familiar to me in the area. Looking up, I saw the sound came from a group of geese that was circling the lake. The grouping was of about 25 geese, all of the same species. These geese would call, and then there would be a much different response call from the Canada Geese already on the lake. I knew these were Cackling Geese - a species I had found only once before in Manitowoc County (and that but a single individual years ago). These birds eventually landed on the Village Pond, where I got great looks at them in contrast to the numerous Canada. These Cackling were less sedate than the Canada. As I moved around the pond, they eventually left, going west (perhaps to Collins Marsh). None of the Canada left with them. -- Bob Domagalski, St. Nazianz, Manitowoc County #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
