For the last five days I have observed a Black-Crowned Night Heron in the
Horicon Mash on HWY 49, south side of the road, east of the pump house near
the dead tree. It is sitting very close to the road. Jim Freiberg St.

If anyone is going for the Eared Grebe, you may also want to try for a
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON down the road.
The Juvenile Night-heron was seen near the bike path between the ponds at
Goose Lake, which is just at the end of Lacy Road. The Eared Grebe is in
the Sub-zero pond which borders Lacy Road.
If interested, just take Lacy Road toward Verona. At Fitchrona Road turn
right. Take the next road left , Goose Lake Drive. Follow this back to a
cul-de-sac for a parking spot. A trail leads back to the ponds from there.
Stay on the trail to the right until the bike path. Go left toward Verona
until the bench on the left. The NIGHT-HERON was to the right of the bench,
at the base of the willows. It blended in well with the gray stems.
Also in the area were Cormorants and a perched Osprey.
