Harrington Beach State Park -- along the Lake Michigan shoreline in Ozaukee County -- has long been a bird-watching hot spot, attracting birders throughout the year from all over the region. Records kept over many years have identified more species here than in any other Wisconsin state park. There will be three more spring outings to look for and listen to resident and migrant birds in the park, including this Sunday June 12 as well as Saturday June 18 and Sunday June 19 (Father's Day). The 90-minute walks will begin at 7:30 a.m., leaving from the observatory area at Puckett's Pond, and work their way east toward Quarry Lake and the Lake Michigan shore in order to explore a variety of habitats. The walks, initiated last summer and fall, are again being organized by the Riveredge Bird Club in nearby Newburg and co-sponsored by the Milwaukee Audubon Society, Bird City Wisconsin and the Friends of Harrington Beach State Park. The walks were conceived to serve users of 73 new campsites at the park, located just east of I-43 and south of County Highway D, but will be open to all park visitors. Standard park entrance fees will apply. Walks will be leisurely and geared to all experience levels;?children need to be accompanied by adults. Participants should dress for the weather. A pair of binoculars will make for a much more rewarding experience, and some will be available for loan. If you have a birding field guide, bring it along.
