After looking at pics I took today of what I initially thought was a Franklin's
Gull, I realized I failed to consider Laughing as a possibility. After
consulting with the only guide I have with me (Sibley), I was feeling this gull
was more consistent with a Laughing. I shared some of the photos of the bird
with Tom Prestby who also believes this is a Laughing. Here's a link to the
photos. Would be curious if others agree. http://tinyurl.com/3aww9jl
Bird was seen just north of the canal/river/lighthouse behind the Harbor Inn in
the vicinity of the Sunrise Cove Marina. This is off of Michigan St. according
to Google Maps. Bird was in a ?private parking lot SE of the parking lot for
the inn. A short private road leads to the private lot and has a sign saying
something about being for registered campers. The lot borders the
rivermouth/canal or whatever that body of water is leading into Lake MI (not
familiar with Algoma). One can easily view the target parking lot from the lot
behind the inn.
