Jim Schwarz just called to report a Marbled Godwit at Nine Springs. He said it was on the third pond. For newcomers, Nine Springs can be reached by taking the South Towne exit off of the Beltline (Hwy 12/18) on the south side of Madison. Go south, getting immediately into the righthand lane in order to go "straight" through the roundabout. Go south past the sewage treatment plant and turn left at the fertilizer company onto Moorland Rd. There is a parking lot for the Nine Springs E-way about a third of a mile ahead on the right. Walk back across Moorland and go back west a couple hundred yards to the entrance to the ponds. We locals refer to the ponds from west to east as first, second, third, fourth. The third pond is typically the best one for shorebirds.
