I agree Sorin! Graphics card prices should come down to coincide with the
decrease in cost of a computer itself. It's ludicrous, but they know they
can get away with it because people like you and myself will go and buy it
regardless..

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Subject: [windows2000] Re: new gateway tower

I haven't felt any real performance increase since I switched my
486sx/33 to a p3/500 and went from 64MB ram to 256...

Recently I bought a new home (gaming) computer - an athlon xp 3000+
and had a athlon xp 2000+ before for a few years. The main
performance increase was the ram speed, 266 vs 400. Other than
that, no real difference. 8-/

The athlon xp 3000 will probably be the last 32b cpu based computer
I buy.

For me, as I do pretty much gaming at home 8-), the graphics card
is the real bottle neck. The barely one year old ati radeon 9800
pro just won't cut with games like doom3... 8-( It also stinks, and
sucks, that you have to pay nearly as much for a good high-end
graphics card as for the whole computer...

$200 for 0.2 Ghz? Hmmmm, lets see&..

Do you think youll be able to feel the difference between those
two processors? (I am not!)

Generally speaking, I just accept processors with 0.5Ghz or more
difference to justify a price change.

But remember that performance is no longer proportioned by
processors speed. Computers performance depends on RAM amount and
speed, amount and speed of Cache, HD Speed, FSB speed, kind of
processor AND&.. Processor speed&.
